I think its worth mentioning that Joe is explaining two seperate events. I didn’t get auctioned off to one of the NXT guys ;)

If we had no idea about the money issues with 2BeCon, I don’t think I would have even percieved a difference. Once we all got set up and started having fun with the other conventioneers it was a blast. Just goes to show that when your heart is in it for the fun and you’re determined to have a good time- nothing can stop you.

Thanks for coordinating a great weekend Joe. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Felix

I’ve managed to upload a partial zip. I’ll talk to my web guy, and see why it keeps cutting off my uploads.

http://brickspace.net/files/purple.zip

It oughta work, even if the vids aren’t all there.

I’ve gotten the vids down to one disc with no loss of quality, I’ll mail out those discs as soon as I figure that out.

Yeah, sorry I drove it off the table while destroying Felix’s castle with my robot.

Steve has tried to portray this as my agressively hitting his front bumper with the side of my robot. Don’t listen to him. Watch the viedo:

He even does a victory dance over the corpse. Evil man... More video highlights when I get to editing them.

Picture Jurassic Park being assaulted by three remote-control vehicles, a Zamor sphere launcher, and a soccerball-firing catapult.

...and keeping the vendors from killing us. The pirates got moved out of the vendors room because they were too obnoxious. I think we may have risen to that level as well, in which case maybe the next time we’ll be out with the pirates (“give’m a good Zamor broadside, me boys!”).

And deep thanks to you as well Joe, for organizing, playing, and severing as a target. If we had had any better a time I think it would have been illegal.

Hi all,

Things didn’t go right for 2BeContinued, the sponsor convention to House of Bricks. Through some odd factors, the covention lost a sizable amount of money. So much, the meeting space wasn’t paid for. On top of that, two of the three guests of honor backed out...

I didn’t know about any of this until Friday morning. It was then that I met some of the staff and was informed of the changes - and it was asked what we were going to do.

I said, “We were going to display.“

And with that snap decision, I went to the vendor room, where we were placed in because there were no places to put us. There, I met Brian Davis, who knew what was up and was already placing tables. And there, the HoB group began to get organized and set up...by that afternoon, everybody was on their way to setting up, and we ran out of tables - just when we didn’t need anymore!

Brian Darrow came in to put up his Blacktron Intelligence Agency, and we had a space waiting for him.

Friday night, the NXT gang came in, and we went into high gear Saturday, with the GBC setup running and NXTs running on the floor. My camera became part of NXTcam that was charged by Steve Hassenplug’s mouse NXT. And what was intially a questionable convention turned itself around to one of the best events I have been part of.

Saturday night was spent watching the Pirate comedy show, and then going to the NXT room, where the gang was making guns for their NXTs... somewhere in there Felix got auctioned off as a cabin boy...and Bryan B was passing drinks...

Which leads to Sunday, the last duel of the NXTs with launchers(!) and wrap ups - I was done by 3 and out by 4 and back home by midnight.

I had a LOT of fun. Many thanks to all the AFOLs who showed:

Steve Hassenplug, John Brost, Brian Davis,Purple Dave, Adam Tucker, Matt DeLanoy, Stefan Garcia, Felix Greco, Kevin Clague, Bryan Bonahoom, Mike and Laura Bosch, Kevin Lauer, Brian Darrow, Chad Phillips, and Greg and Andrew Dykstal.

While I was the person who led, all of the people above gave a great display and deserve most of the credit, from Brian Davis for starting to Stefan for gathering all the video and burning DVDs for us, to everyone else for not flinching when things looked pretty doubtful at the beginning. I saw the best of the community come out, and Iwas pretty proud of the display and teh people.
Thanks also to the Susan and Jose at the hotel (Doubletree Suites of Downer’s Grove) for their help in getting tables. Many thanks go to Cersei of the convention (she’s the girl in the group pic) for helping to get things worked out...

Some things of note:

big things (Brian Darrow’s Blacktron Intelligence Agency)

tall things (Adam Tucker’s Sears Tower)

Matt DeLanoy’s pirate in brick

and NXT gang!

So what’s next? Well, there’s other conventions interested in us...and we’ll be ready!

I’m working on converting and compressing the 2.66 gigs of video for everyone who didn’t get a disc. I’ll host it on brickspace.net
