The Wacky Race is coming to BrickFest™ 2007!
This will be the 4th year that competitors have built and crashed their crazy
and wacky racers here in the Pacific Northwest and a first for BrickFest!
Each year, builders of all skill levels have ramped up to the challenge of
building some odd and
crazy
racer or
to putting wheels on a castle or rolling the
death star down
the ramp.
If you remember the fun of building your ships to throw off the roof, then the
wacky race is for you. If you think that you can build the best and craziest
contraption, then the wacky race is for you. If you have a MOC that is begging
to be taken apart, then the wacky race is for you (just put some wheels on it
first).
The basic rules are simple.
Each racer must be gravity powered. Each racer must be entirely made of LEGO parts. Each racer must have a pilot.
The challenge changes.
This year the winner will be the racer that sends its pilot and vehicle the furthest.
The gritty details.
- - Pilots that remain with their vehicles will score 1.2 x distance from end of ramp.
- - Pilots that travel forward extra-vehicularly will score 5 x distance from launch point + distance that vehicle travels from end of the ramp.
- - Pilots that just fall off their vehicles or travel backwards will score 1 x distance of pilot from ramp + 1 x distance of vehicle to bottom of the ramp.
- - Judges may be bribed, blind or otherwise under the total and crazy thing known as absolute power MUH HA HA HA...cough.
The ramp is wooden, 10 feet long by 2 feet wide with a height of approximately 3
feet so the gradient is around 1 in 3.3. There is a very small drop as you
transition from ramp to floor. Im not sure what the floor surface will be so
plan on industrial carpet or tile.
So now you know! Dont be left out! This is a special one time TV offer for only
19.95... Get yer wacky racing fix at BrickFest 07!

Man, that is my kind of race!
Probably a LOT safer than what I did last years BrickFest... In hindsight I
realised just what kind of disaster I could have caused.
I held my floating city (one of my very few space creations) in my hand and
asked the oh so sexy and handsome Derek Schin (ladies, this is not sarcasm, he
is hot... and ummm Derek, if you have a wife or gf, please pass on my apologies
for speaking out of turn) to go long. As Derek went long, I hurled my MOC,
shotput style, at his lovely head. Thankfully he has a good arm (who knew a
geek spacer could catch???)....and he gracefully and with a smile caught the
main body of the MOC, with all the greebles exploding around. Like I said, in
hindsight, not such a good idea, because if the talented one had not caught it,
my MOC would have creamed the moonbase display. And as much as I like to tease
those guys, I would have felt horrible if anything had happened to any of their
MOCs.
So, wacky racers, not only sound like a blast, they also are a way safer option
of destroying your work without taking anyone else down with ya! Wink.
Have fun with it.

The race sounds like alot of fun.
I was wondering what the rules are for a vehicle that fall apart during its
run. Or one that spererates into multiple vehicles.

Hi Mathew,
These are good questions. First since this is Wacky race please remember that
there are always crazy things happening and the judges have to make on the spot
decisions.
Generally if the vehicle breaks apart, then the vehicle distance will be
measured to the largest recognizable remaining portion. If the pilot is with
that portion then the final score will fall into group 1. If the pilot is not
with that portion then scoring will be according to group 2 or 3.
In the second case, where a racer is built to separate, then the vehicle
distance will be to the portion with the pilot unless the pilot either falls off
or is flung. In that case the vehicle distance will be to the stage that travels
farthest while the pilot scoring will fall into either group 2 or 3.
In all cases dont forget group 4 :)
See you at BrickFest!

The Wacky Race will be at BrickFest 2007!
Friday 6:00pm - 7:00pm Hall A
This will be the 4th year that competitors have built and crashed their crazy
and wacky racers here in the Pacific Northwest and a first for BrickFest!
We now have the schedule and the races are on Friday evening. This doesnt leave
a lot of time at the fest to build your most crazy racer, but even if you come
to fest without, dont worry! its perfectly ok to just put some wheels on your
MOC and slide it down the ramp!
Please see my previous announcement for the
rules and some truly excellent examples
of past crashes...i mean creations!
