Last weekend, COLTC displayed at the Greenberg Toy, Train, and Hobby show, in
Columbus, Ohio. We had one of our largest displays to date in our young life (we
just turned 1 year old). We had an L-shaped, 30 x 30 foot display, with a total
of 4 running train loops, 4 long parking train tracks, and 3 monorail loops. The
train loops were connected such that 1 long loop of almost 400 (!) feet could be
formed. We displayed our Columbus Downtown Project (in progress). The LeVeque
tower (white tall one in the middle) was recently remodelled::
Several more skyscrapers are still under construction, this one will be the
tallest when finished:
Mike Ulring brought his castle / medieval village:
In addition, the Beach, Bridge, and Drive-in theater, as always, got a lot of
attention, as did many other MOCs and scenes.

We adopted a scale of 1 brick = 1 meter:
The tallest so far, the LeVeque (white), is 169 bricks tall (antenna not
counted), which is 5 feet and 4 inches. Huntington Bank (sand red/trans-blue):
156 bricks or 4 feet and 11 inches Vern Riffe (tan/trans-green): 155 bricks or 4
feet and 10.5 inches Border (white/blue): 137 bricks or 4 feet and 4 inches
Under construction are:
Franklin County courthouse (black/dark-grey): will become 141 bricks (4 feet 5
inches) One Nationwide Plaza (white/black): will become 148 bricks (4 feet 7
inches) Rhodes Office tower (light grey): will become 193 bricks (6 feet 1
inch).
One Nationwide will have a 60 brick tall antenna. Top of that antenna will
likely be the highest point in our downtown project (6 feet 6 inches), although
the antennas on the Rhodes will be within just a few bricks.

Paul,
I stand in awe at the scale you guys can build! Who owns the 18 wheeler?
Because you must need one to haul those huge buildings around the State of Ohio.
When is you next show? IndyLUG is going to caravan over to see your stuff in
person. I had planned on going to your last Columbus show but time and prior
commitments conspired against me. The pics are great but to see it all in
person would be outstanding. Brian

so true! The next member to join will have to have at least a cargo-van, or an
SUV/Truck with a trailer!
As for next shows, thats up in the air. Besides the standard shows like GATS
and Greenberg, we have a bunch of invitations. At our next club meeting (April
4), well make a plan for this years shows. There is no GATS or Greenberg in
Columbus till Feb. 2005, but last year we did the Dayton GATS, which would be
ideal for Indylug to come see/participate (?) (Dayton is pretty much right in
between Columbus and Indianapolis). The entire downtown becomes quite a
transport nightmare, we will likely only show it in its entirety at local
GATS/Greenberg shows, but a few skyscrapers (meanwhile we have 4 finished, 3-5
under active construction, and a few more planned) should make it to out-of-town
shows too. Ill keep you guys posted as to when/where well be next (including
the size and content of layout, so you can judge if it is worth the trip).

Yup, it would be about a 2 hour drive to Dayton, however, that is the weekend
prior to the Indy GATS which well participate in. I dont think too many of the
guys could do back to back weekends, although it would be fun to have two LEGO
layouts at one GATS.

Woa, you guys really like to build big! Those are very nice sky
scrapers. I cannot decide if I like the white skyscraper best or if the
beach houses win out. Funny thing is that I had a hard time finding
pictures of the trains!
I looks like you put on a great show!
Thanks for sharing,
Chris
