I have just uploaded to the Parts Tracker three potentially useful Clikit parts.
All part names are temporary.

The female/female (ring) connector
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/clickit1.dat
The male/male (bead) connector
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/clickit2.dat
Another possibly useful female/female connector
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/clickit3.dat

These make use of a couple of new primitives - one for the "stud" and one for
the "toothed hole". Should we treat the stud as a real LDraw stud - i.e. call it
stud... and have LDraw understand it as a stud and thus substitute a line or a
low-res version?

http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=p/clikstud.dat
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=p/clikhole.dat

I have few more parts in the pipeline - please let me know if these are useful.

Thanks are due to Eric Sophie for his encouragement with this project.

Chris

Well, you didn't specifically ask for input on these names, but I'll give
it anyway. :-)

All three of these parts are what TLC calls "Icons".
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x746
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x747
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x742
and (I think) should be named accordingly.  The current name of clikit1 is
particularly unfortunate because Clikits parts include at least one
(small) human-sized ring.

An additional consideration when modeling Clikits parts is that many have
a "frosted" finish, which I think is an aspect of part design and not
color.  Note especially
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x898
which has been observed with a partially frosted top.

Peeron currently has many Clikits parts organized into what I think is a
coherent hierarchy
http://peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/psearch?query=clikits
about which feedback would be appreciated.[1,2]

Remove capital letters in address for direct reply.

[1] Parts without pictures may be poorly named, duplicates, not exist,
etc.

[2] There is a progression of names when a part comes in
four sizes of "Small", "Medium", "Large", and "Huge" which would be nice
to see for wagon wheels as well (where the "Medium" is currently known in
LDraw as "Large").

Thanks for your comments - the names are just working titles for the present. I
was really looking for opinions on whether the connector should be called a stud
(as you do) and should have the inbuilt LDraw support for studs.

I'm not sure the term "icon" would be widely understood (even it this _is_ what
TLC call them - they also describe clear 1x2 bricks as windows !). I'm also
somewhat reluctant to use the terms "small" and "large" as you do on some of the
peeron names. So I think we need to add some dimension qualification, otherwise
one could assume that
x746 Clikits Icon Round with Two Holes  and
x747 Clikits Icon Round with Two Studs  are the same size, just differing in the
presence of "studs" and "holes" - which they are not.

But I do take your point regarding "ring".

Regarding the frosted surface, we don't really have a way to do that in LDraw,
and have never been able to accurately represent the textured surface for
slopes.

Thanks especially for that one! It's, at least for me so far, the most useful
part in the entire Clikits library, I made extensive use of it in my recent "Inn
of the Fallen Angels"

The male/male (bead) connector

I think this is a great question. My gut reaction would be yes, we should. It
has studlike properties, and it tends to appear in a number of different
elements. What's the downside of doing so?

That's funny! (in a good way).

Hmm ... I looked at that Peeron list, and it seems all the small Clikits bits
are called 'icons.' Strange, but I've seen stranger [1].

When I look at the above three, I think female adapter, male adapter, and
backing - cause those are the functions the parts perform.

[1] Which I presume to be 'Danglish' names

Well if you're gonna use "clikit" as a prefix for the part number, it should
only have one "c" :)
