So far, the only standard Ive found about modeling sticker parts is that they
should be 0.25 LU off the surface of the piece they will be stickered to. What
about width & length compared to the surface? I.E: sticker for shields - should
they extend to the edge of the shield or perhaps 1 LU in from the edge?
Heres a test of what I mean. The one on the left has the sticker to the edge of
the shield, the one on the right has the sticker cut all around by 1 LU.
Personally, I want to go with the cut style.

Hi Mark,
I would assume that if it is a user created sticker you can put it where you
want. For official stickers I assume you make them the same size as the original
sticker. Which sort do you mean?
I suspect the 0.25 LDU is probably so that it looks like a sticker and so that
display software has a fixed distance to consider things as 'different' points
(so that for example (1,0,0) and (1.1,0,0) might be treated as the same point
while (1,0,0) and (1.2,0,0) would be different).
But I am not on the LSC so these are just guesses.

Hi Mark,
I agree with Tim. I dont think this should be a set standard, you should make
the stickers a size that looks good. In your case, I think I prefer the 1LDU
inset, but its really up to you.
The 0.25 LDU is just to try & make sure the bricks behind dont peep through
when rendering. Though it depends on the renderer, 0.25 LDU seems to work well
with the ones commonly used for rendering LDraw models.

You make the sticker whatever size it actually is. If it's 40 LDU wide and
extend to the edges then that's what you make. A sticker is just like any other
part: it must be modelled as close to the real life part as possible (including
size).

Well, specifically I'm working on modeling the stickers from set 0375 (Fort with
Knights aka the Yellow Castle), in particular the shield and vest stickers. But
since I do not own an actual copy of set 0375, I can't measure the actual
stickers. I have jpg scan copies of one sticker sheet example, but I can't tell
how big the stickers would be compared to the surface they are to stick to
(since the scans are high resolution, they do not print out at "actual size").
Can anyone out there provide actual measurements of the stickers from this set?
p.s: I do have a couple shields with original stickers still attached, but there
are differences in the sticker's sizes as well as in the colors (apparently
there have been a few printing differences in the stickers for this set).

hi mark,
I've never got reply when I sent you the scan of my stickers (suppose the mail
has been eaten up by some spam filter) and therefore I'll post the link her:
http://www.holly-wood.it/tmp/castle.jpg (234 KB)
I also measured the stickers (though they are not in the best shape :-( and I've
got an average width of 14.7 mm. using paul's LCad calculator you'll get 37.039
LDU. I suggest rounding the stickers to 37 LDU.
bye, w.

In this case, I think you should make them the same size as the shield, armor,
or flag face.
