Several years ago, in a computer controlled machining class, I designed my first
clone brick--in aluminum. The bricks are exactly the same size as the offical
thing, and work pretty well with each other or with the leading brand. Mostly
it was a fun little CNC project, but it also made a much more durable keychain
than an ABS brick. I designed a fixture to hold a couple at a time, and made
several dozen bricks, which sold quite successfully.
After being out of stock several years and not having access to a CNC mill, I
finally found a way to make more. You can get your own at
http://shop.bldesign.org/
Right now, Im offering custom engraved logos or text on each brick, but I cant
promise that option will be around for long, so if you would like a personalized
design, please pre-order as soon as possible!
Hope you like them!

As an owner of one of the original run, I can heartily recommend these. Theyre
very cool.

Like them? I love them! I bought a pair of the aluminum bricks almost as soon
as I heard about them, and as a matter of fact I was just showing them to my
four-year-old this afternoon.
To anyone whos considering buying a few: stop thinking about it! The answer
is YES--BUY THEM!
Theyre super-cool, and they do indeed work very well with real LEGO bricks.
Ive been a clone-brand fan for over a decade, and I give these a huge
thumbs-up. Heck, even LEGO purists would find little to complain about in these
very cool elements.
Im delighted to hear that theyre available once again!
Dave!

They are very, very kewl and have a couple of original ones. But, Bram, can you
provide scientific evidence that they are a much more durable keychain than
ABS? I have one of my ABS ones that has been in my pocket for going on 6 years
now and still holding up. lol I want actual stress testing data in actual use
situations to back up such a claim.
Also I want stress testing and wear data on pocket fabrics to determine whether
they have adverse effects and cause premature failure of the pocket. .
But I will of course be buying some more from you.

Really? The studs on my plastic keychains turned into rounded blobs of ABS
after a year. And the minifigs completely fall apart. Plus, ABS gets dull
with pocket wear, while aluminum gets shiny!

Shouldnt be any worse than your keys!
