Hi all,

yes, I have been quiet...been busy with SciBrick stuff and a few other things, but I built a shuttle for my sigfig, good ol’ .space paparazzi!

and here it is:

and the folder:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=549950

This is a short-range shuttle used by the Paparazzi to get to those places where there is need of a person who has a particularly nosy camera:)

SP is a freelancer by trade, and is highly regarded by some, disregarded by others. Such is his life, tho, and he wouldn’t have it any other way!

And if you’re wondering about him having just a shuttle....there’s going to be more. Really!

Just passin’ through before goin’ home and saw this... Joe it’s really groovy.

Now don’t be landin’ near PCSLabs... any leaks to the press and you get a SCRAM missle right up yer thrusters.

Thanks! I was really surprised how this lil’ ship came together so fast!

Now do you think the .Space Paparazzi would do that?:) Tho you might want to uprate your sensor arrays...

I knew there was a good .space use for those 4x4 SW ball joints!!

Very nice shuttle, IM-un-space-educated-O. Nice and compact, and it has a
certain shape to it that appeals to me for some reason.

Thanks! You might like it because it has a resemblance to the shuttlecraft from
Star Trek: The Next Generation. I figured that out midway hrough construction.

Very nice, Joe. Cute, compact and with some bumpy bits on top which go really well. Does the camera swivel? I think it would be a cooler feature if it did. Or maybe a detachable camera drone. And landing gear. ;-)

Um, no...and I tried to modify, but the camera would have to be further out to swivel.

How about 2, one for each wing tip? I did those tonight after reading your comments (you have a really bad habit of coming up with good suggestions, so I tend to build immedately after I read your notes:)) I’ll take pix soon!

and don’t get me started on the gear (though I did think about it for a while)

here’s the cam drones:

The drones are essentially cams with a thruster pack on them.

I like everything about this ship, but you’re not exactly stretching yourself with it are you? ;) Anyway, this sort of thing is fun to play with more than anything - I expect it sits very comfortably in the hand, and none of the bits are prone to falling off. You know, the more I look at it the more I want to build one for myself. Instructions?

Thanks! On this model I was more dealing with color and exploring parts uses than anything else. It was a fun build! And it does fit well in the hand and it’s got a really nice swoosh factor about it.

And instructions...hm, give me a few days:) I’m having a busy schedule for the rest of the week!

Well, SP needs a larger ship to keep his cambots and stuff:) And it may be a bit...SP needs another heavier duty shuttle and a mothership. He’s rather demanding.

This is pretty cool, I like the shape. Does the back open? It looks like there is a hatch with a hinge, but I could be wrong. I like the color scheme. I’m a little worried that your sig-fig seems to have the same face as mine, though, I think TLC needs to make more faces with rectangular eyeglasses.

Thanks, and you’re right, the hatch does open! And I was playing with the rde and white to see how I could work withthem. I’m pretty happy with the result.

Hm. Mine has a astronaut head from the Life on Mars sets. But I didn’t have him hold his main item, a digital camera!

He might be in for a color makeover..it would figure if he wore a red suit, you think?

Definitely cheaper. I had tried putting a rotating cam on the top, but it looked...clunky. So I did this, per Paul Baulch’s suggestion:

detachable camdrones!

   GRIN

More please...more

There’s going to be more...I have to build a shuttle that can hold cargo, for starters..

Thanks!

This is a lot of fun Joe....and I imagine more complex to build than it’s shape tells. I often find that with all the pushing we do to ourselves here to discover new and as yet unseen element combinations, it becomes more difficult to build the ‘swooshers’ that got us started in the first place. This is an excellent example...simplicity, function and a clean aesthetic.

Nice stuff!

Cheers, -Gil

Nice stuff!

This was a really fun build, and one that had it’s share of interesting problems...the interior is about a two plates short of minifig with helmet height, for one. So it’s cramped:)

But I really love the form it ended up being, especially when the engines fell into place. And it has a nice swoosh factor, probably the best I have done in that respect.

Thanks for your comments!

Hey, I like it! I really like the shape and it looks like it could fit in the palm of your hand! However, I think there are too many colors, maybe if you change the black canopy with a smoke one?

Great work!

Thanks! The canopy is trans smoke (from the World City police chopper), and I chose to go with the color scheme because I want to start using all the other bricks that I have amassed:) Red and white is a color scheme from my high school and college too.

something about this one really appeals to me. the light grey w/ the red/white schema, perhaps. can’t really put my finger on it, but this is a nice little MOC.

clever concept, too

Thanks! This ship has a really ‘cute’ feel about it from the roundness of it, I would guess. It’s size really makes me want to swoosh it, too.

I really appreciate your feedback, so thanks again!

After a few comments about the non-rotating camera (which I did consider on the top but found it looked clunky), I took the suggestions and made some additions to the shuttle.

I didn’t want anything that was ‘permanent,’ so these are essentially strap-on wingpods/camdrones.

So here it is:

Mr .space paparazzi -

I love it. Saw this last night and really could not stop admiring it. Swooshable and compact, sleek and neen. I have to agree with Gil about finding novel build combinations, as I find myself doing a lot, that “This is an excellent example...simplicity, function and a clean aesthetic.“
Having just gone through all of the posts, I realize another thing why it is so appealing: it is reminicient of the sportscar from the Transformers Constructicons (if that’s the right name).

Alright, can’t wait to see more!

Thanks! I wanted a sleek look on the ship, though what ended up happening was that the ship I intended shrank to the shuttle. And it does look functional. And it wants to fly, I tell you:)

I might make another version in blue for making instructions...hopefully next week. And maybe a booster pack and the final starship...but it’ll take a litte time:)

Great ship, Joe! Very cool idea, too. There are enough fighters around in .space, but not nearly enough brave men to report their actions!

Thanks! Sorry for pretty late reply, but the SP went to Houston Space Center for the weekend and just came back.

Credit needs to got Nick Kappatos for the ‘.space paparazzi!’ label, and well, it’s a pretty fun idea.

And the Paparazzi is not necessarily brave...his profession makes it look that way:)

There will be more coming
