| The 2009-01 LDraw parts update has been now been released.
This update includes 671 files in the core library, including 307 new parts, and
many more files updated with improvements for Back Face Culling support. A total
of 19 parts have been redeveloped by authors who have affirmed the Contributor
Agreement, replacing files that were not redistributable.
In addition, there are 6 new alias files, which are synonynms for existing parts
with new numbers as used by LEGO Digital Designer. These have been included
deliberately to assist with inter-operability between LDraw and LDD. Thare are
also 23 new files in the "physical colour" library, the descriptions for which
are prefixed with an underscore character to prevent them bloating the parts
list of applications like MLCad.
With the co-operation of Don Heyse, the new download includes version 1.4 of
mklist.exe which provides support for 64-bit Windows systems.
Thanks are due to all the authors and reviewers who contributed to this release,
and for everyone's patience over the last three years, during which time no new
parts have been released. We have spent this time standardising the file header
structure, formalising the redistribution rights, and streamlining the parts
update process. Consequently this process is now back on track and further parts
updates are planned for 2009.
You can preview the new parts in 2009-01 and download the update by going to
<http://www.ldraw.org/library/updates>.
There are still 160 certified files on the LDraw Parts Tracker,
<http://www.ldraw.org/library/tracker/> many of which were held back from this
update, following our normal practice of not releasing new primitives or
subparts until they are needed for an official part file. There are another
800+ files waiting for admin review, which I will tackle in preparation for
another release later this year.

Yay! This marks the resurrection of LDraw! :-D
Thank you, Chris for this, you've done a wonderful job, and to all parts authors
who made this happen (IIRC none of my parts got certified so I'm not really
thanking myself).

Uhh, it seems to me that the Windows version of the library doesn't include the
old parts! New users coming to LDraw using the installer would thus be without
many important, even fundamental parts, such as 2780.dat. Shouldn't a version of
this having the complete library be released, too? The zip file seems OK,
though.
About 2780... in my opinion it should have made it into this release as it's in
admin review stage and utilizes the new pin primitives. Same for 32054. However,
again, this release is a milestone, thanks again for it. :-)

The existing 2780 is still non-redistributable, in that is was authored by
someone who has not affirmed the Contributor Agreement. I'd suggest that you
declined to install this component of the library, which is why it is now
missing. Maybe this was not clear in the language you selected for the
installation. I don't know your mother tongue, but if not English, German,
French, Dutch or Italian, maybe you could assist me to translate the install
questions into your own language and improve the installation package. Let me
know if you'd like me to send the text for translation.
I can understand why you might want the revised 2780 (and indeed every other
"needs admin review" part) to have gone into this update. However there needed
to be a cut-off somewhere between me working on admin certifying the backlog and
getting the already certified parts packaged into a release. I took the
unilateral decision that users would prefer some evidence that the update
mechanism is back on track, rather than wait another month or more, and I hope
you can support this decision. As I said before, I will now work on these parts
with the aim of another update in a two or three month timeframe.

Ah, that explains it... I didn't know 2780 was Non-CA (should have checked) and
yes I'm a Finn and I could assist translating the installer, just send me the
texts.

I know the lack of time to go through every part in admin review stage and I
didn't mean each and every one but rather 2780 and 32054 and the possible others
that utilize the improved primitives. But the parts in any case won't appear
before the next parts update, and I do support the decision.

I seem to remember submitting some info for the Spanish translation and I
believe work has been done on the Portuguese translation as well (I mailed with
the portuguese translator about some common translation issues.
If there are still parts of that translation missing please let me know.

Thanks go to all the parts authors, program authors, decision makers,
reviewers and organizers! (If I have missed any categories, plese remind
me!)
This is almost as good as getting a large box of unsorted, real, LEGO.

At

the link "Download LDrawParts.exe" is a Windows installer for the complete
library.
Is that what you are asking?
The complete.zip downloadable from
http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-req-viewdownload-cid-1.html has also been
updated.
