If I wanted to set up a trade of clone-set-for-clone-set, would that go
under market.bst or off-topic.clone?

Given the general sentiment regarding reviews of Clone sets and the
generation of CLONE.DAT files, I'd suggest using off-topic.clone for setting
up trades of this sort.
I'm a fan, though; you'll have to let us know what you're looking to trade.

Arguably (not that I like to argue or anything... :-) ) it doesn't
belong there either. Overall TOS say that trade related stuff is not
welcome in any group that doesn't explicitly allow it.

So we may need an off-topic.clone.market group or something. Which
strikes me as silly. IMHO a better solution is to broaden the market
charter. But I know how Todd feels about that without even having to
ask.

Actually, the TOS only covers auctions:

11. Post auction announcements, updates, or listings in discussion
groups which do not explicitly welcome their presence.

I think Todd himself has mentioned that it's ok to post buy/sell/trade type
stuff in the theme groups.

So it seems that the only thing we would need would be someplace to conduct
auctions. My personal feeling is that the charter of this group should be
extended to specifically allow market posts (including auctions, but perhaps
requiring clone auctions to keep updates to e-mail). If enough market action
starts to happen here, we can always add a market group, but I doubt we'll
see enough to bother anyone. If one looks at the old articles in this group,
there was at least one auction conducted here, and there have been several
auction announcements, enough that it seems to me that Todd is allowing
auctions to happen here as long as the volume is low.

Fortunately, I don't think clone auctions would attract too large a crowd
around here!  Maybe 6 or seven participants, and I have the feeling that you
can outbid me, Frank!

I noticed some TENTE stuff never gets bidded for on Ebay.
What TENTE sets have you got anyway?

I have a bunch of free sets that one could get by sending in Rice
Krispies box tops... since I was living in a fraternity at the time and
was friends with the cook, I just asked her to order cases extra of RK
and sent all the box tops in. something like 15 sets worth, all the same
set, a small coast guard cutter, although some of my unsympathetic
brothers staged horrific sea tragedies with some of them.

I also got a couple of small ocean freighters and a couple or 3 semi
truck sets (articulated lorry for those across the pond)

No idea of the set numbers or names of any of them.

That's how I got most of my collection, tokens from Kelloggs Corn
Flakes.  They were called combi sets, we got all the space ones but
never got enough tokens for the ship series (if they were available)

I also got a couple of small ocean freighters and a couple or 3 semi
truck sets (articulated lorry for those across the pond)

There's not much of a variety of those around, there's a white
refrigerated truck, a low loader and a long thin red truck with Super
Transport on the side.

No idea of the set numbers or names of any of them.

Were they Hasbro TENTE or international TENTE?

How do I tell? I no longer have boxes, instructions, etc... the
timeframe was circa 1980-81. The lorries were actually a gift from my
wife, I think.

I don't know, the boxes and instructions had Hasbro on them with a 3
figure set number so in your case I don't think I can help.

If someone can help me get an ASP server I'll start the long process of
making a database - shouldn't take too long I hope.
