The four Studios Monster theme sets are now ready to ship. They can be found
at LEGO.com for ordering online or order by phone 1-800-835-4386 (in the USA).
The four sets are:
1380 Werewolf Ambush  $9.99.
1381 Vampire's Crypt  $19.99.
1382 Scary Laboratory $49.99.
1383 Curse of the Pharoah $3.99.

Wow, these minifigs are cool.  I really like the way they did the werewolf's
head.  Are these part of an upcoming movie?  The Spider-Man sets obviously
were and the rest were either Jurassic Park III related or generic movie
studio stuff.  Are these just classic horror film elements as their
descriptions on shop.lego.com suggest or should I be watching my movie
listings for Monsters?

Other than the minifigs, I can only see a few things from these sets that I
like.  The brown inverted slopes in 1380 are nice to see in a $10 set.

It looks like there are at least a pair of (green) curve bricks on the
car on the 1380.

The 1381, has the nice brown crypt, the tower (made standard in most
studio sets), a black stairwell that are also in train station and the
Blacksmith shop.....so this is a definite addition to all those who like
the black stairs.  It also looks like there is a grey vehicle element dating
back to the town era....another note-worthy point about this set is the
2x2 tile piece with the "garlic" on it.  Plus the vampire and the "henchman"
are both definite strengths of this set.  The minus of this set is the
inclusion of dreaded Jackstone elements.  Fortunately, the printing on these
is pretty tasteful.

The 1382 might make some good pieces for your castle projects, but other
sets (Guarded Inn and Blacksmith shop make better sources).  The gates on this
are incredible.  They are a real strength.  I don't like the "liberal"
inclusion on Jackstone elements.  More "traditional" building concepts would
have been better appreciated.  Not bad price for 500 pieces, with heavily
juniorization.  Again, the minifigs really do it for this set.

Lion's head from 1383 is just begging to be made into an grand estate
entrance or a Gotham City-ish skyscraper. :)  Otherwise are there any good
parts here that I'm missing?

I have to somewhat agree with that sentiment.  However, a lion head in a
mummy set is "cheesy".  If they wanted this set to do it justice, they
should have looked on the 1998 series of adventurers and brought back a
smaller scale sphinx.  It would have cost the consumer additional cost, but
I think the consumer would have liked it better.  The positive attributes of
this set are the grey arches, but if you were buying the arches, a better
source would be the Castle Expansion Pack.  The mummy minifig is very cool!!

Summarization of this line-up.  Very nice array of new mini-figs.  Definitely
very useful if you were inclined to building up characters for a lego-ized
haunted house.  Not so useful for building in general.

Just my two cents!!!
