According to the book "The Ultimate Lego Book", the company was started in
1932, by Ole Kirk Christiansen. At the time, they made wooden toys only. The
great building system we are familiar with was not introduced until 1949,
and was introduced as "Automatic Binding Bricks". Even then, the bricks
lacked the binding mechanism that the current bricks have. The company's
product line has certainly come a long way, but in my opinion still holds
true to the underlying principle of the early company..."only the best is
good enough."

Thanks,
Dave
