For those of you interested in amassing more mini-fig Confederate soldiers I
thought I'd offer this tip on a great shopping find I found this week. You
may have seen the many postings in the last 2 weeks about a store called
Tuesday Morning. One of the clearance priced sets that is showing up in
stores is the polybagged set 5902: River Raft. This 18 piece set includes
the Max Villano mini-fig. This character has the dark grey torso with the
open collar shirt with 2 pistols stuck in the belt. This torso goes
perfectly with the dark grey kepi and legs (and black neckerchief if you
like) from the Doc mini-fig in the Rock Raiders mini-fig sets.
Tuesday Morning here in Richmond, VA had the 5902 sets for $1.49. I was
freaking out because up to now I only thought Max was only available in the
Air Zeppelin (5956) and River Expedition (5976) sets. Both of these are
getting scarcer and more expensive to find.
This set also comes with some other keen elements that add even more bang
for the buck (and a half). There's a dark grey rifle, the large brown
opening backpack, a red snake, dynamite tile, red oar, map tile and the raft
if made out of brown pieces (!) - a 6x6 plate and 2 1x6 bricks.
I snapped up all that they had!
Tuesday Morning did also have the Rock Raiders mini-figs. However, they're
asking a dollar (3.99) more than what TRU is still clearing them out at
(2.97). It's been hard resisting buying more of these when TRU still has so
many on the shelf and I know in the future I'll be whining about how I can't
get any more grey kepi caps anywhere. Oh well.
Anyway - since my budget is blown for the moment I thought I'd pass this
shopping tip on to others who might not have been motivated to go looking
for their nearest Tuesday Morning yet. I found out about the local location
by visiting their website (www.tuesdaymorning.com).
One last idea that occurs to me to offer up is that even if you don't have a
T.M. near to you there will probably be a lot of these showing up on
Brickbay and other sources soon.
I hope to hold a muster soon so I can see exactly how many troops I now
have. I might try and do this as part of a display for BrickFest in
mid-July. I'll be sure to post some pictures when I do.
