Larry is spot-on. PNLTC's first event may have either Contest or Guarantee,
but second and all subsequent events have been the latter. Currently, we
request $250-400 depending on the number of members/size of layout. We also
include promo info (near bottom of app) they can use for attracting crowds --
and to let them know, as mentioned, that LTCs are to be reckoned with.
Even if you start out modestly, the guarantee helps defray the cost of
materials and gas, as well as the Rolaids ones needs after eating the burgers.
Other points: request at least 2-3 onsite tables to augment your own, a
couple of chairs if available, and be realistic with the space you'll need.
This is not to say request less than you'll need. Wrt tables, if these are
the garden-variety banquet-type _and_ match your own height-wise, these can be
used as part of the layout or an interior crew table.

| (...) Yes, contest means you're up against the other layouts to win the crowd pleaser award (which is easy for us) or one of the others (much harder). Guarantee is just that, money in your pocket if you show. Here is a suggestion to ALL train clubs (...) (24 years ago, 27-Sep-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.trains.org)
