Whoops first I send a blank post and then I inflict some REALLY terrible
ascii art on you. I should go to bed. Wait!

I haven't inflicted the art yet. Here goes. Do a view raw post if you have to

First off, small scale end view (looking down the long way) NOT to SCALE!

  |
  |
]X|Xs
    S
    S

]= Binder clip
X= 2x2 piece of wood, straight as can be, and knot free
|= the piece of plexi
s= place where you put staples in
S= GATS supplied skirting hanging down

OK now a view of a normal binder clip for reference from the top, looking
down. Go get a binder clip and look at it, or search the office depot site
or something. :-)

clip end

   _____
(     )  this is the handle of the clip. There is one on each side.
   |   |   it pivots in the hinge formed by the rolled metal in the H.

throat end

The H's are the rolled over metal where the handle of the clip rides in. the
c's are the rolled over part that doesn't have a handle in it, the T's are
the back or throat end.

Now a modified clip. Take the handle out. Unroll the C's... cut off the H's

     __
    /  \    < unrolled C part
/    \   < where the Hs and Cs were in the above pic
  /      \    (cut off corners)

(the other end isn't changed at all, the handle is still there etc)

Now screw through the center of the Throat, through the first 2x2, and the
plexy, and the second 2x2, making your sandwich.

Larger scale end view, omitting plexi and second 2x2

PPPPPPPPPPP XXXXXX...
...BBBB  T X
       B  T X
       B SSSSSSSS...
       B  T X
...BBBB  T XXXXXXX..
CNNNNNN  (note this gap here, it's important)
    HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

In this view:

X is the 2x2. Not all X's shown, just the edges of the 2x2
S is a screw... not shown going all the way through the 2x2 and plexi and
into the other one
P is the side of the binder clip that is now flat and pointy instead of
having a handle
B is the banquette table
C is the hinge point on the bottom half of the clip, still intact
N is the normal clip part (bottom half)
H is the handle part on the bottom that is still there.

The clip isn't flush with the bottom of the 2x2 it is a bit below so that
you can lever the clip open enough to grip the table.

Steve R, if you're reading this, take some pics and post them!!!

(...) I agree, James. We definitely need to figure this out so we can incorporate it into our club design. I'm awake and still having a hard time visualizing this design. Sounds like an intriging design. Later, John Warren (23 years ago, 23-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.michlug, lugnet.trains.org)
