Hi,John,
my 18-wides started as double of 8-wides...that means with 16-wide body and
sleepers.
Because I remembered that in my N gauge trains the sleepers were 16 mm.
wide (about .65 inches),I decided to use a small N gauge wagon as
prototype,using the scale "1 millimeter = 1 stud",but I soon discovered that
the body was wider than the sleepers.
Infact (I'm speaking abuot european trains) on my trains the body is always
about 19 mm.
That means 19 studs.
For some (till now) unknown reasons,I decided to round it to 18.
For the wheels, I use the wheels you see in this pic:
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6952
with a 6x6 (webbed) radar dish used as rim.
The rails are 2xn gray plates put vertically.
This means that it can also move!!
Maybe you'see the first wagon at next ItLUG legofest (that should take place
somewhere in december)
Ciao
Gianluca
