Nice alternative use for chairs

While building my recent EMD SD-45's I was having trouble getting the
look I wanted under the wagon plate between the wheel sets. I found that
if I used the common inverted slopes or maybe the round bricks, I just
couldn't get close enough to the wheels with out stopping them from
turning in corners. And the large gaps just didn't look right, I wanted
the gaps to a stud or less.

But then I got the idea to use chairs under the wagon plate. I just took
6 chairs (three each side, i would have used four each side but since I
had three sets of wheels on the back boogie, 3 chairs a side worked
fine) and attached them with a 1x6 plate between them, some 2x3 plates
on the bottom to hold it together,  and a 2 x 3 brick in the middle.
Then I used a 1x3 plate on top of that and attached the entire
contraption to the bottom of the wagon plate. Now the chairs are regular
"stud up" and the backs of the chairs fit nicely inside of the lip of
the wagon plate.

This worked out great! The fact that I had some "hollowness" with this
solution the wheels could almost be flush against it (pretty much a 1/2
stud), but when they went into a turn they would go inside of the hollow
area. And the chair backs gave a real nice curve to the bottom of the
train.

I will have some pictures this later this week. Maybe I should actually
download LDraw and put together a diagram.
