My favorite locomotive is Green Mountain Railroad's #405, an old Alco RS1 that
used to belong to the Rutland Railroad.
It doesn't have a particularly nice livery (it's green with a yellow stripe),
and it's not particularly nice to look at (it's a big block with wheels), but it
is a link to the past that still runs in regular service.
My LEGO version was one of the first train MOCs I ever built. One of my
favorite moments was at a show when a gentleman was looking it over. "That's
really great!" he said. "Oh, are you fan of the Green Mountain?" I asked. He
smiled and said "Yeah. That's my locomotive. I'm the engineer of the real
one."
I actually met the mechanic at a different show about a year later. It's been a
neat model for striking up conversations with people I usually wouldn't have
met.
