LEGO Magnet and coupler statement. —Eric Kingsley
LEGO has released a statement about magnets and couplers. (URL) (17 years ago, 15-May-08, to lugnet.trains) !

Re: LEGO Magnet and coupler statement. —Dave Sterling
(...) Thanks for the link, Eric! This seems to be pretty good news and I am excited to see how the new couplers work. In addition, I'm interested how they managed to get the magnet to rotate. It could be a two step manufacturing process where they (...) (17 years ago, 15-May-08, to lugnet.trains)

(...) No problem Dave. I am also quite interested to see how the magnet works and rotates in the housing. I am sure someone will dissect one eventually. I was confident that there was going to be a way for the magnet polarity to switch but it is (...) (17 years ago, 15-May-08, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO Magnet and coupler statement. —Jordan Schwarz
(...) In the hi-res images of the new buffers, one can see an "S"-shaped line running across the face of the magnet enclosure; it appears to be made of two halves that are then assembled and held together with a slot-and-locking tab mechanism. I (...) (17 years ago, 16-May-08, to lugnet.trains)

(...) magnets. Does that imply that TLG will stop using magnets in other sets? Or will the new train magnets be used more widely. I am thinking of sets like the UCS Imperial Star Destroyer etc that make extensive use of magnets. Kerry Proudly a (...)         Re: LEGO Magnet and coupler statement. —David Drew
I think the crux of this notice is the 'magnets in small parts'. So they will keep selling magnets, but the piece that contains the magnet must be above a certain size (standard non-swallowing size, presumably). How small are the magnet-holding (...)      The Natasha ... ah that brings back memories ... The magnet holders in the Natasha are small pieces: (URL) are the ones used in the current trains: (URL) with the trains the magnets were always part of the buffer assembly, so coming up with a (...)          Re: LEGO Magnet and coupler statement. —Gary Quinlan
(...) Kerry, I remember you telling me the magnets were not that succesful in holding the Natasha together, so I would probably think that in future a different method would be used if a magnet was considered in any new creation. As has been (...) (17 years ago, 18-May-08, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: LEGO Magnet and coupler statement. —Ondrew Hartigan
(...) i imagine those parts will be redesigned as well. imagine a 2x2 plate with a two plate high cylinder on top. i imagine it will look something like that if they do infact redesign it. on another mildly related note, the redesigned buffers may (...)
