LEGO has released a statement about magnets and couplers.

Thanks for the link, Eric!  This seems to be pretty good news and I am excited
to see how the new couplers work.  In addition, I'm interested how they managed
to get the magnet to rotate.  It could be a two step manufacturing process
where they mold two halves, put the magnet in, and then bond the halves
together.  Or they could be doing some really tricky injection molding
work...which wouldn't surprise me either.

No problem Dave.  I am also quite interested to see how the magnet works and
rotates in the housing.  I am sure someone will dissect one eventually.  I was
confident that there was going to be a way for the magnet polarity to switch but
it is nice to get an official statement form LEGO confirming this.

In the hi-res images of the new buffers, one can see an "S"-shaped line running
across the face of the magnet enclosure; it appears to be made of two halves
that are then assembled and held together with a slot-and-locking tab mechanism.
I guess we'll see when these parts come out in August.

These new buffers are presently included the LEGO Factory palette, but the
buffer parts cannot yet be ordered - I suspect they will become available in the
August timeframe as well.  For the time being, that means that one has to
exclude these buffer parts from any LEGO Factory creations in order to be able
to order them - FYI.
