Moi,
have just stumbled into the world of Lego trains, buying a 4561 for my
daughters for Christmas (probably the last but one in Finland; almost nothing
available in trains/accessories; given the limited shelf space, the "themes",
worst of all StarWars, are killing everything else :-( )
Fortunately, had not yet read all the flak it got here; am clinging now to the
comments pointing out play value as a redeeming feature... ;-)
The heavy black&red 4565 looked so forbidding, and the girls prefer playing
with little people, anyway... (talk about role model changes :-)
Now, I could just have a very tiny peek (cannot possibly open the box before
the kids do), and am wondering: The back of the box shows, as a variation, a
quite nice little old-fashioned steam engine, and also a small ditto train
(conveniently fogged by "motion-blur" -- how can you do it with those huge
wagon bases? Or are they using one of these to simulate _two_ small 2-axle
cars?)
Has anyone here on LUGNET already supplied detailed pic.s or, even better,
step-by-step instructions for these or other alternates? (Without using
non-4561 stuff...)
I hear there is an "ideas" booklet included, but am sceptical about its
usefulness to us as beginners (but we _can_ view LDAT, if that is an issue :-).
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Best regards from the Far North,
Martin

| Martin, There has not been much talk here about how to modify or rebuild 4561, and I am at a loss as to how one would turn 4561 into a steam engine (I just received a 4561 for my 31st birthday). Does Finland have a Shop@Home service like we do? If (...) (25 years ago, 3-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)
