The dome roof is cantilevered on one end, and then held by friction on the other lug end. I tried a few other methods to fix that free end, but they did not line-up correctly.

I plan to eventually build heavyweight cars for my T1 in the dark red, as most PRR passenger cars were that color at the time. I really like the style of Benn Coifman’s LDD heavyweight passenger cars and will eventually go that route.

I really must do some Ldrawing of the dome car I built ~8 years ago, as it uses the Star Wars style of canopy back to back to produce a quite elegent dome.

You might be referring to the style of observation car shown here in one of Mike Walsh’s designs:

This is from his Carolina Train Builders website, http://www.carolinatrainbuilders.com/models/ctb%2D1116/

I like this style of dome and have “borrowed” it on one of my railcars. Alas, the dome is only 4-wide and not the full width of the train car (but there are other ways to build a 6-wide Vista Dome).
