With the holidays approaching, I have been working on building passenger cars for my 6-wide PRR T1 to pull around the Christmas tree. I was limited to the remaining parts from the 10183 Hobby Set after building the high-nose diesel (which is also why there are not trucks for my cars at the moment). In addition, I also used the blue doors/windows available from S@H, and some misc. parts from Corner Cafe.

I thought the dome car module I developed was interesting. I had not seen a similar dome structure on brickshelf or the forums, so I thought I’d share some pics.

The dome roof is cantilevered on one end, and then held by friction on the other lug end. I tried a few other methods to fix that free end, but they did not line-up correctly.

I plan to eventually build heavyweight cars for my T1 in the dark red, as most PRR passenger cars were that color at the time. I really like the style of Benn Coifman’s LDD heavyweight passenger cars and will eventually go that route.

(...) I really must do some Ldrawing of the dome car I built ~8 years ago, as it uses the Star Wars style of canopy back to back to produce a quite elegent dome. James Powell (17 years ago, 28-Nov-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
