I saw a page somewhere (somebody post if you know) of a design that used the
property that if you push in horizontally from the side on the magnets, they
decouple.  I built a version of this and it worked very well.  This version
was all above ground, but you could modify it to swing up from below.

Does anybody know whose original idea this was?
