Hi,
I would like to present my new train MOC. Its a famous steam loco, a Climax
type B.
The Brickshelf galery is here (after moderation):
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=220029
Its a 6 studs loco and of course the rods can move by a 9V mini-motor hidden in
the cabin and connected to the plug on the 9V train motor. This way the rods are
moving at the same speed as the train motor.
I also wrote an article (in french, sorry) on the Freelug site (after moderation
http://www.freelug.org/article.php3?id_article=555), were you will be able to
see some more pictures about some building techniques I used for this MOC.
In summary, here is the important points if you want to build this loco:
- The piston is made from a Minifig harpoon, and move inside a barrel 2x2 in black (sorry, this part is not common in this color). The barrel is covered by a plate 2x2 round, but WARNING you must use the old version of the plate 2x2 round. If you use the new version theres too much friction and the piston cant move freely. The old version of this part has the axle hole on the whole height, whereas the new version is half-tube (bottom) half axe hole (top).
- For the SNOT slope 45° 1x2, you also need the old version (without center tube)
- I also use the old version of the 24 tooth gear to reduce some friction, but you can use the new one.
- For the whistle I used a technique that I found for my canon MOC (see the french article on freelug http://www.freelug.org/article.php3?id_article=553, an english version will probably be done by me and Didier Enjary soon), were I jam a little part in the hole that appears when you put two brick 2x2 round back to back.
PLMKWYT !
