I'd seen the pics on BS but the DB red and black threw me off the scent. I'd
vaguely heard of the loco (or the African one) I think.
Although I think I would have gone for an all-wheels-coupled build I think the
representation of the valve gear gear hides the lack of coupling rod the front
wheel. You mention a problem matching the small 12V wheels with the big BBB
ones, did you not consider using small BBB ones (although that obviously means
buying them)?
I feel that the downwards (upwards?) curve of the running plate in the cylinder
area is quite a destinctive feature for the design and it seems a bit lacking on
your model. You have captured the curve below the cab. I don't know whether a
1x1 slope mounted stud-facing-backward at the top back edge of the cylinder
would be effective (or possible).
All in all an interesting model of something a bit different. I think the cab
front windows are well done and the overall proportions look pretty good.
Of the real thing, I have my doubts. While I don't doubt that it is capable of
the advanges in power and economy claimed, the whole design doesn't really seem
to have taken advantage of modern advances in other areas than computer
modelling of steam engine mechanics. For example, why is the cab not at the
front (or both ends)? It seem that they have chosen to make it look like a
classic steam engine for purely aesthetic reasons, to appeal to the steam fan
special trains market, yet a lot of the appeal of special steam services is that
they are pulled by classic steam engines. Oh well!
