| | | Hi, Does anyone know if phone or thermostat wire is a suitable or (more importantly) safe replacement for the 9v train wire? If not, anyone know what I can use? I am running 45 feet of track in a loop and I want to run additional wires from the (...) (18 years ago, 19-Feb-06, to lugnet.trains)

| | | | | (...) it's perfectly safe to use and model railroaders used it quite a bit in the 50's however i would suggest using braided wire instead of solid core. from what i'm told braided wire has less DC voltage loss "or was it less resistance" over a (...) | | | | (...) Tom- You can use almost any convenient type of wire wire to run your 9-volt trains. Stranded 16 or 18 gauge might be optimum and can often be had particularly in the form of paired speaker wire or lamp cord. At SCLTC, we use the 4-conductor (...)
