A 4.5v battery car runs through any 12v track (including switches and
crossings) without any problem. This is true for both the 4.5v battery
car as well as the old bricks with button which had to be mounted under
the motor (from the time the 4.5v battery car did not exist, yet).
The switch under the battery car is higher than the height of the track.
The 12v switches are no higher than the 4.5v switches. The lever of the
4.5v signals raises higher than the height of the track to push the
button onder the battery car.
At the LegoWorld 2005 event in Zwolle I ran both 12v and 4.5v trains
together on the same blue 12v track with switches and crossings,
operating the 12v train with the regulator to avoid collisions ;-)
Blue train track rulez! :-)
