It's not just the case of a few sets.  When those few sets are all that are on

OK.

I think we're getting bogged here though.

I'd love to see way more sets in the range too, but my point stands, these sets
are good for *a* large market. Not the only market, granted, but one that, prior
to the ATSF F unit, had ZIP for sets. Nary a one. Now we have a few that we can
point to at shows and stuff and help LEGO drive sales and (more importantly)
increase the number of people in our hobby, and the US IS a large market.

Bigger for LEGO than the UK or any single euro country, except, perhaps,
Germany.

Germany has traditionally been a high penetration market for LEGO. Making sets
that were German prototype was smart at the time(1), it was serving the largest
market LEGO had.

If LEGO gets to where they can release 20 train prototype sets a year, then I
think some UK sets would be great as well as some French ones, some NL ones,
some Japanese ones and so on, but for now, here, given the resources LEGO says
they have, this set is a smart addition(1). It's one that is likely to sell
multiple copies because TOFC trains in the US tend to be long. And that's a good
thing for LEGO (although not so good for us!)

1 - IMHO. You may not agree but that's OK. But I think your point is made, isn't
it?

(...) They're not though - they don't work for European fans any more than they work for Americans. Just because they don't look like American prototypes you assume they must therefore satisfy everyone else, and they don't. You can't claim they're (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains)
