TOPLESs is the acronyme of Tile Or Plate Located between Enough Studs.
And because a picture is better than an explanation :

Matt Chiles used this technique heavily in his roller coaster, and referred
to it as pony-eared (the 2x2 plate is pony-eared into the 2x4 plate).

It wasnt just me who came up with term pony-eared. It was coined when we
were talking about the technique at a PNLTC meeting a couple of years ago in
Portland. ToPLeSs is a pretty good name for it too though. :)

This comes from the old castle sets, before there was a horse element. The
ears of the horses were attached to their heads in this fashion.
I wish I could include some links to the roller coaster, but the site seems
to be down at the moment.

Enough down-ness. Thanks for the encouragement to get things back up, Tony! My
roller coaster is now at this location
http://www.auctionbrick.com/mchiles/rollercoaster/index.htm. And if you come
to NWBrickCon it will once again be on display in action!
