  Re: MOC Streamliner Observation Car

(...) Wow, that does look very expensive. That is a quite huge amount of chrome parts you used.... Very clever use of the 4wide chrome parts from Star Wars and these enlarged by the tubes to 6 wide (at the end of the observation car). Your pictures (...)   MOC Streamliner Observation Car

Perhaps you'd like to check out the following ... a Santa Fe FA and FB (with working fans (from track power) and lights(from battery box)) with a consist of 3 streamliner coaches. The tail car is an observation coach with an exterior viewing (...) (21 years ago, 30-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) I don't know about you, but I tend towards .5W or bigger for most of my resistors, and diodes have exactly the same problem if you use them as a voltage drop. Load is not really signifigant on a 5A booster (soon to be 10 amps total...2 (...) (21 years ago, 30-May-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) I forget if I already replied with how nifty this is. I spotlighted it, I put in a news article at ILTCO (we're having some domain problems right now, a temporary url is iltco.northcomp.com) and I added it to the .trains header That ought to (...)   Re: 7-wide mania continued......

Awesome cars! The shovel roof really looks nice, and the cars themselves are incredible. The ends have gotta be my favorite part, with the drop down deck and the entire thing being SNOT. Very spiffy. -Stefan- (21 years ago, 30-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) Hi Dave, no you wouldnt need any resistors or diodes. Esger (21 years ago, 30-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

Re: Top 10 List involving Monorail

(...) Joining in here, I don't get why it's so hard for Lego to make a new monorail. Can't they just put together a new spur gear system (And give the cars real couplers while they're at it)? Doesn't seem like it'd be that hard. -Stefan- (21 years ago, 30-May-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) Sorry, my earlier post should have been more clear. I was just commenting on the fact that in general a resistor is _not_ a good way to reduce voltage to a train motor. And you recalled correctly: diode's are "one-way". Thats why you need to (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

  7-wide mania continued......

Hi all, after an active phase of virtual building under ML-CAD there has now a new train been built from real bricks and uploaded at Brickshelf. That train consists out of the recently posted BR24 engine and 4 brandnew passenger cars. All this (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Top 10 List involving Monorail

(...) <snip> (...) All bets are off WRT to the "momorail" ;-), but as far as monorail goes, Brad Justus was asked point-blankedly what the chances were that TLC would rerelease the monorail, and his answer was 0%. All parts specs for the motor are (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) The problem with inductive load is that when current is interrupted, they generate large voltage spikes with reverse polarity. The diode absorbs these spikes and avoids destroying the driver... Philo (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) I'm no electronics engineer by any stretch-- A diode, iirc, allows DC current to 'flow thru' in only one direction. What would a diode do across the output on the top of the train motor? And why would one be good for 'inductive' loads such as (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

Re: Top 10 List involving Monorail

(...) VERY unlikely that it'll happen... LEGO didn't produce everything themselves and all tools are gone or so we were told. This has been discussed a few times before. But IF monorail were to return, I'd much rather see new things... the 6399 was (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Top 10 List involving Monorail

(...) True. I will have to agree with Paul though. I know it is quite selfish, but I like thinking that three of the sets I have are worth so much more than I originally paid for them. I have two 6990s (one of which was free) and one 6399. I need to (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Top 10 List involving Monorail

(...) Ah, but if you're actually running your monorail, I would think that selfishly you would want it to come back into production so that you can continue to get replacements. Of course this is why I have purchased several extra motors... (I also (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Top 10 List involving Monorail

(...) Although I've already submitted my entry for your Top 10 (btw thanks for thinking my previous entries were (very) funny), I secretly, and very selfishly, hope that TLC will not re-release momorail. I've spend way too much money on monorail (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

  Top 10 List involving Monorail

Go visit (URL) and tell us what you'd do so that LEGO makes and/or releases Monorail sets again ! Terry (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: DCC for the RCX

(...) Huh??!? Your basic resistor can only handle 1/4 watt (0.25W), so your worst-case 2.8W is more than ten times the rated maximum current. Even dumping an "insignificant" 0.5W across a resistor is probably not adviseable unless you are also (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Who had these trains for sale?

Just lately someone was (is?) selling a large 12V lot, including one 7735, and 2 extra cars for the 7735. I was interested in the cars, but he wanted to sell the lot as one. I seem to have lost the link to him. I think his name was Greg. Does anyone (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.trains)
