I think it has teeth like those found on the bionicle double-bevel gears.
Might mesh, though I don't see any obvious connection points for anything
else like technic pins or rods.

They look like technic non-studded angled beams to me.

No, I mean the thing they are clasping. Really, it's round, it's dark grey,
it's the biggest part in the model. It has what appear to be ridges or gear
teeth on its outside circumference.
