Josh, that looks like a nice scene, but can I make a suggestion? Take a
look at the bridge this train is going over:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/j.j.railton/specials/lms.jpg
Would you believe that the track is only actually a single brick above the
baseplate?
(Sorry if this picture looks too dark - it seemed fine at home, but on my
work PC I can't make out any of the black!)
If you look right under the arch it's obvious that there's barely two plates
of clearance, but no-one ever does. It was originally three whole bricks
high, and the track needed a run-up of about seven straight sections to get
up to that level. Now it doesn't need any more than the three sections that
go over the bridge.
It's hidden by gradually building up the light grey bed on either side of
the track, and keeping it down to one or two plates thick. There's also a
layer of dark grey plates on the sleepers to make them look higher. The
walls on either side disguise the ride height as the train goes across.
You'll find it a lot easier to manage on a layout if you don't need the rise.
To inherit from a Larry-ism I'm inclined to class this as 'selective
depression', but that sounds too much like what you get working in IT.

| (...) That is a brilliant idea, Jason! And of course your british dark red engine is simply marvellous.... Kind Regards, Ben P.s.: @Josh - I like your little sceenery too, but Jason has just stolen a part of your show... (22 years ago, 19-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

| (...) hehehe... Good one!!! but it's not a Lar-ism, as much as I'd like to take credit. Selective Compression is a well known scale MR term that dates back, oh, to the 1940s and the days of Frank Ellison and John Allen... You're spot on though. (...) (22 years ago, 20-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

| Well, I thought this over many times before building, its is only 3 bricks high... When I get to building I was thinking of a 2-3 brick height on the whole layout anyways! But thanks, I may have to use that idea on another bridge!! It does SEEM to (...) (22 years ago, 20-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)
