But John, you realize that is this a mere 6-wide model, right?

"Mere"?-- lol  Well, of course; that is what I meant by "minifig scale".  You,
as does James Mathis (good company, I know:), have the ability to pull off a 6
wide version of a loco and still make it look good.  It has to do with creative
compression, a hallmark of "minifig scale"-- something for which I have no
talent.  I would rather build more or less *un*compressed (which ends one up
around 8 wide).

"Around 8 wide"....as in 14 wide! I love it! And I personally think that
each has its own talent area. Large scale is actually much more difficult
for me, which is why I am always so impressed with your large scale stuff!

And wow, grouped in the same category as James, it is a good day!

Even though we are really on different tacks, I still appreciate what you are
trying to do.  To me, you and James are super-detailing *toy* trains.  Your
work fits in perfectly with the scale of LEGO sets, such as the Metro Station (
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/4554 ).

Yes, you are exactly right - at least as far as I see it. I try hard to
develop my models to work with, and in the same scale as, the existing LEGO
products. Some people mention that they thought my spine car
(http://www.bricksonthebrain.com/equipment/spine/index.cfm) used a trailer
that was much too small. I don't disagree, but the trailer was a
pre-existing LEGO set.

My work fits into some (although still based on the minifig) larger, less
compressed scale into which this building fits: (

what I'm calling "LEGO model train scale"

That building is amazing! Quite "in scale" to a real world version. I think
that if I was build as part of a club layout, or would see my stuff end up
in a club layout (Connecticut LTC anyone?) I would probably do more of this
scale too.

To me, it's not just the variation in themes (space, town, castle, trains,
etc.) that makes this hobby fun. It's also the variations within each theme
(2 wide trains, 6-, 8-, 14- wide, etc.) that makes it seem like there is
always something new just over the horizon.

OK, back to work... even though, now I just want to go home to build! John
throwing off my focus again! :)
