I recommend posting a CFD-style (call for discussion) message.
First step: Post a message to the lugnet groups with the 'Newsgroups' and
'Followup-To' headers set like this:
Newsgroups: lugnet.trains.org,lugnet.trains,lugnet.general,lugnet.loc.us,
lugnet.loc.us.ca,lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf,lugnet.loc.us.ca.la
Followup-To: lugnet.trains.org
(no need to post it to .announce)
Second step: After that appears, cut & paste a copy of it into a new message
and add at the bottom that the discussion is taking place at -- and then find
the URL of the other message you just posted, or alternatively give the URL
of the .trains.org newsgroup: http://www.lugnet.com/trains/org/
And then post that to RTL.
Third step: Post the URL of the thread/message on the BayLUG homepage and/or
other places else relevant and visible.
Fourth step: Ask the PNLTC folks if they'd be kind enough to post the URL
of the thread/message on the pnltc.org website for a couple weeks or so.
Also ask them if they've kept records of people who live too far away from
the PN but have asked them to keep them in mind if they ever spawn a group
for California.
Ongoing: Keep eyes peeled for anyone living in California and interested
in LEGO trains, and keep a copy of the URL for the thread/message handy so
that you can point people there ad nauseum. :-)
