I posted some new creations today on Brickshelf. Some of you
probably saw them run at Brickfest!

VERY nice.  Certainly nicer looking (and longer and taller) than mine.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=42410  Are there real
ones that look like that?  I've only seen plain ones - these look great.

Thanks! Yes, there really are cars that look like this. I keep meaning to
post the photo that I worked off of. Basically, when the intermodal
transport via rail started getting popular, the RRs asked for these cars,
thinking the uprights would offer additional stability. They very quickly
realized that the securing mechanisms from the ships could be used on the
cars as well, and since the uprights didn't offer anything extra and cost
more money, they stopped making them. If you do a web search for
"Twin-stack", you should be able to get quite a few sites with these cars.

I will be posting building instructions for these cars, as well as my
locomotives as soon as I can find the time to finish the instructions like I
want!

Centerbeam Car
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=5663
After working with James Mathis on some concepts for this car, I built
his version off of a .dat file. Looks great! James retains his title
as SNOT master. (Not sure that he wanted that title....)

Another great looking car, but that green engine would be closer to the
top of my "must have/make" list.  I see centerbeam cars rolling by, (my
office window faces the main rail-yard) but I've never been sure what
they are used for.  Is cargo strapped to the centerbeam?

Like I said, hang tight for the building instructions for the engine. The
red version is actually the newest version. On the outside they are both 99%
the same. But structure wise, the red version is much much stronger.

Like Josh said, mainly lumber of varying sorts. Once I can collect enough of
the right parts in green and blue, I want to do versions in those colors too!

Thanks again for your kind words!!
