Can it be done?
It needs to be able to handle around curves & it should be such that it
provides enough clearence off the ground. It will be used on a train car
(or engine perhaps) that uses 2 sets of 4.5v train wheels as the wheels.

I've noticed that the ends of the wheels sets have the stud openings on the
bottom, and a 3x2 plate w/ rounded end ( http://img.lugnet.com/ld/3176.gif
), if attached to the bottom they will be the same higth as the standard
lego coupler.
