Hi All,
I was wondering how many of you guys use the clear decal sheets and print on
them? I know the Alps printer is used a bit in this, mostly due to the fact
that it can print white ink. I was thinking about using a thermal wax
printer; the Tektronix 840. I was wondering if the decal sheet is sensitive
to the heat produced by the printer?

comments, ideas...???

Did you ever hear anything on this? I have been wanting to do some of this
decal stuff for a while now for all my hobbies, but not sure where to start.
I am assuming water transfer decals onto the plastic. Can I get these for a
laser or inkjet printer. If so, anyone have any ideas of a good brand/bad
brand, where to get them from, etc?

Here is what I have done so far.  Hope it helps.

For doing my own labels I use Avery Clear Shipping labels.  These can be had at
most Office Supply stores.  The one drawback to these are that they are not
truly clear, they are more translucent.  They work great over White bricks but
arn't great over other colors.  I also don't have a printer that prints with
white ink.

I did the NELUG Boxcar using these:

My second use of labels was to buy some preprinted O-Scale Model Railroading
wet transfer decals.  These are great and they don't just come in Roadnames of
railroads.  I have seen them for things like billboards and signs for more
generic "Town" type uses as well (especially gas stations).

Here is my first attempt using these:

I am sure there are lots of other ways to do this if you have the time, money,
and resources but so far for my uses these techniques have worked well.
