    12V train engines —Margaret Flavin
    Interested in any information relating to 12V train engines. Firstly, trying to source rubber wheel rims (?part no. 5067). Where can I buy these? Does anyone have any I can purchase? The 12V engines I have are working, but I wonder how they can be (...) (23 years ago, 8-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

     Margaret, I haven't found a good replacement source for the traction tires yet. The rubber that Lego used decomposes quickly when exposed to air. First they will turn yellow and then crack apart after only a few years. When mine are gone I expect (...) (23 years ago, 10-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

     (...) Has anyone tried shrink tubing? I was at an electronics store last week, and saw grey shrink tubing in many different diameters.      John, I tried heat shrink tubing a couple years ago. There's temperature problem, it fits nice and snug around the wheels, and the color is good. I guess I never pursued it because the tubing I found was a little thin for good appearance and it was (...) (23 years ago, 12-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

   It appears that Lego Service in Europe may still have these. They're not cheap (DM1 per tire--not per pack) and they're not willing to sell them in large numbers, but I'm pretty sure some people in Germany have recently gotten ahold of some from (...) (23 years ago, 13-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)
