John,

I tried heat shrink tubing a couple years ago.  There's temperature problem,
it fits nice and snug around the wheels, and the color is good.  I guess I
never pursued it because the tubing I found was a little thin for good
appearance and it was hard and slick... which didn't make for good running.

I haven't found a good replacement source for the traction tires yet.  The
rubber that Lego used decomposes quickly when exposed to air.  First they
will turn yellow and then crack apart after only a few years.  When mine are
gone I expect that my search for replacements will intensify.

Interested in any information relating to 12V train engines.
Firstly, trying to source rubber wheel rims (?part no. 5067).
Where can I buy these?  Does anyone have any I can purchase?

Has anyone tried shrink tubing?  I was at an electronics store last week,
and saw grey shrink tubing in many different diameters.  I have no idea what
sort of temperature would be required to get it to shrink, but I may have to
spend a few dollars and try it out anyway...
