Holidays, WHISTLES, new train accessory needed (was - Re: 8 Wide Train Pics)

Well, I've gotten MOST of my trains I ordered. But my 4532/4539s from DYA didn't show up today, so I most likely won't have them for Xmas :-/ I REALLY hope they show tomorrow, Emmanuel shipped them on the 7th. I hope my 4537/4547/4549s show up (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Only Old Brad Kenobi can save us;-) (...) Actually, I've never used the thing-- I got it for my kids. I'll download ldraw for them and hope they can teach me it! PCs....<shudder> (...) Delicate may have conveyed the wrong idea. The design is (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Cutting bricks - I've turned to 'the dark side'... :-O Speaking of 'dark side', how's that PC, John? (For those of you who don't know, John and I are Macintosh fans from waaaay back! Of course, I work on a PC all day, so I suppose I shouldn't (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: 8 Wide Train Pics

Sell? No, but give freely, sure, but I am not an ldrawer...yet (Just bought my first <shudder> PC so now I am *able* to download ldraw:-). Actually, there are just a few techniques that I used that could be incorporated into any Steamer to make it (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 9v vs 12v in traction

(...) As for the 12v track, the motors have two conductors on the bottom, to coincide with the ones that run in the middle of the track. The weights are to make sure the electrodes will stay together. If the train was too light, they may not touch, (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  9v vs 12v in traction

Several measures to increase traction for the 12v trains do not present in the 9v trains, for example the serrated tracks, the rubber bands on wheels, and the inclusion of weight bricks in the locomotive. Does it mean a 12v locomotive can pull a lot (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Web Hosting Questions?

(...) No matter who sets up your domain, you'll still have to pay internic $35 a year to keep your domain registered (your first bill will be $70 for the first 2 years).   Re: NMRA San Jose in Y2K

Yeah, I can bring track, trains, maybe some buildings, but I just don't know if I'll have the spare bricks/money to build a proper module. Is there a web page online for tips for building modules? Do they HAVE to be all Lego except the base, or can (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.trains)

  8 Wide Train Pics

Hello All: Not having my web site "8 Wide Utopia" up yet, Paul Foster of the GMLUG was kind enough to post some photos of some of my train cars on the GMLUG site. So stop on by and see what the fuss over 8 wides is all about;-) Go to: (URL) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

Re: RCX onboard timer and motor pulsing

(...) The timers run at 1/10 sec, but granularity for "waiting" a task is 1/100 sec. The PWM used for motor output has granularity of 1/1000 sec. Dave Baum p.s. I hope it wasn't my book that stated 1/10 and 1/1000 - if so could you e-mail me the (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

Re: RCX onboard timer and motor pulsing

(...) It is 1/10 of a second for the timers. However, in case you don't know. The RCX's Motor ports PULSE their signal. They always put out the same voltage. At level 8 it's 100% at level 4 it's an even on/off. I use it for my trains and it's great. (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

  Re: Longest train?

(...) I -know- that the train would not make it with HEP only through a curve like that. My upper level is a straight oval, about 25 straights each side. The figures I have seen seem to indicate that a 10 Degree curve has as much drag added as a .3 (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

RCX onboard timer and motor pulsing

Hi All, Since I am and train head I don't read .RCX (this topic might be well exhausted) I just read thru a third party book on the RCX and in one place he said the timer granularity in 1/10 sec and in another it was 1/1000 sec. My goal is to pulse (...) (25 years ago, 23-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)

  Site down for the day

My site, will be down for the day on 12/23. Repairs are being made on our electrical systems and the power will be going on and off all day. Sorry, Chris (URL) (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.general)

  Re: Longest train?

My experience tells me the bigggest factor limiting the length of the train is the number of curves you have and their configuration. Take you same 71 car train and try to drive it through a double s-curve. That is 8 curves one way, then 8 the (...) (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: NMRA San Jose in Y2K

(...) I agree. We should start planning immediately. (...) Since I don't have the time or money to build my own modules, I'm willing to help out a few weekends building them. Russell (25 years ago, 22-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.trains)

Re: NMRA San Jose in Y2K

I'm in for helping, Mike, but I'll have to deflect until I get back from the UK at the start of February. Let's do some planning at the next BAYLUG meeting about this....
