The wire that this part contacts (in real life) is indeed catenary, but the proper name for the part, were it named functionally, (and that's a debating point in and of itself) is "pantograph shoe" because that's what its real counterpart is (...) The "Catenary" does make sense however - It is the shape of a curve which hanging cables form - well at least it is the shape of suspension bridge (...)
