(...) _modern_ US prototypes (those more recent than DOT 103 10 000 gal tank cars) don't have a separate frame. Older tank cars did have separate frames, and DOT 103's lasted until quite recently (and still do exist, just not in interchange (...) (24 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.trains)
