If I’ma kid, and I see how I can build a 4-wide plane, wouldn’t I recognize that a wider plane would be better, so I’ll look at all my parts and figure out how to make a wider plane? (plates & inverted slopes)

Yes, this presupposes that I have a large collection of pieces, but that’s a reasonable assumption for most kids...

So now I have to go build an 8-wide plane to show it can be done (1).
