Sidewalks are a topic I am interested in hearing peoples thoughts on.  When
building your city, do you include sidewalks?

I have found that some town builders use tiles for sidewalks, which seems
strange to me.  Yes, it does match the "pavement" of the road plates, but
its tough to keep a minifig upright on tile.  Lately, Ive been constructing
extra large, 6 wide sidewalks using light gray plates.  Not only that, Im
letting them hang out over the smooth part of the road plate, so the streets
are only 12 studs wide!  This may seem odd, especially when TLC is actually
expanding their roads, but let me tell you, it makes for a much more
inviting atmosphere.  With a 6 wide sidewalk, you can add trees, signs, and
benches, while still allowing for minifigs to walk comfortably.

This idea for sidewalks will probably not sound great to vehicle-heads,
especially those who love 6-8 wide creations, but I think for an overall
look, it cant be topped.

Hmmmmmmmm can't be topped?? Darn and I thought our downtown with"tiled
sidewalks" looked pretty good.:-)

Ahh, yes - they do look good. But I think one of your pics shows the point
about keeping minifigs upright on tiles..

lol, I guess he had too much Legoland Ale ;)

But this topic is something I am very interested in. The tile sidewalks do
look nice, but the plate sidewalks would provide a much more stable platform
for showing.

And I am loving the wide sidewalks! I was debating with myself how wide mine
should be, I think I am leaning for 6 wide right now.

Mark & All, (...) Well, minifigs do fall over occasionally, but using them in a multiple of creations and shows now, most of them do stand the test. With trains and other things running by. And it is not too big of deal to stand a few up during a (...) (22 years ago, 22-Aug-02, to lugnet.town)

(...) I LOVE the tiles for sidewalks. I think it looks classy and realistic. And I agree it is tough to keep minifigs up. But one solution that I thought of is to use 1x2 plates with the single stud on top that way you can place one foot on the (...) (22 years ago, 22-Aug-02, to lugnet.town)
