for Christmas this year.  It is a very juniorized set so I wanted to see what
improvements I could make to it using some of my own parts.  I wanted to keep
the same general feel of the set so I tried not to make radical changes - I
wound up removing 5 bricks from the original sets and adding a bunch of details
without changing the fundamental design of the set.  If you would like to see
my modifications (with notes), see the following URL:

Hmm... looks good for the most part, but I have one small comment.

"Fire Truck Modifications:
Added hinged cab and hinge bricks on back unit(*).
(*) I'm not sure of this unit's fuction, but I thought the hinges made it
more playable."

The unit on the back, from what I can tell, is something that a lot of
two-piece fire engines have.  Basically, it's a place from which a
firefighter can steer with the back wheels, which helps keep the trailer
under control at high speeds and while backing up.  There's no reason it'd
be able to go up.

Although it looks good that way.
