My first LEGO city used an RCX.
Every time the train passed by a light sensor, the the police department
radar would rotate back and forth and make some noise.
However, I later disconnected this in favor of a more high-rise Police
building:

In LEGO City 2, the main train station had sliding glass doors on the front.
These slid open and then closed after a short delay. I wrote an RCX program
to manage this with a touch sensor. It;s the yellow high-rise in this

I've never gotten back to using an RCX for town stuff. I'm just too
interested in building architecture to mess with electronics. At the
moment, my RCX is packed for about 6 months.
