This is a set review. I got all the Turaga this weekend. Everybody at
Brickfest got one free Turaga (was that Lego marketing to us?) I thought
Onewa was kind of cute and he did the clapping for me when my wrist got
strained, so I went for the whole batch.

I was expecting more variety: at least two body types, but I see they're
basically congruent. The different axle lengths for legs and arms do vary,
but that doesn't lend much character. Whenua's stumpiness does set him apart
because his head comes out of his belly. It's also the way he can wave his
staff in the air whereas the others tend to use their tools in a chopping
motion. (Of course he can be configured as a spear thrower too.) I may have
to pick up more Whenua. (I will call the second one Fenua, after a different
Polynesian dialect.)

Of the toa I only picked up Tahu. I'm not feeling any urge to get the others.

So that's the bunch straight out of the box. Time to mix them up a little.

By the way, the Bionicle Cow somebody had in the historical sets room at
Brickfest -- that's not really a set is it? I liked it a lot.

(...) Is it the one in this picture? (URL) this is it, it is a MOC made up from parts from Gali, Pohatu, and possibly some others (hard to tell from the picture). Martin (23 years ago, 17-Jul-01, to lugnet.technic.bionicle)
