I concluded pretty much the same stuff you did.
The final event (actually the last two panels, they have the same number)
falls very close to christmas day, who's online then?

The circle with wedge is an icon,indicating the horizonal angle the view
shows (if you look the icon sits in a circle connected to the bottom left
hand number. The other pictogram (arc with two solid lines and a dashed
line) is bounded by the same box which has the vertical view angle.
As for the red comet, comets are traditionally the heralds of doom,
prophesies and great events, I think that that's what is going on here.
Vakama (fire turaga) mentions that there is a new prophesy in the stars,
reading this as including the comet's arrival would seem to support that
conclusion.
