Hi Stephane,
That is similar to the rotor in http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8444 - and no,
it is not how real rotors generally work. Here's another page with a lot of
great info about how helicopters work: http://www.helicopterpage.com/
You could probably model a more realistic swash plate with those same parts,
together with some towball pins & stuff. I wish I'd had them when I built my
helicopter 8?)
FWIW, I don't mind the LEGO way - it's not realistic, but not many LEGO
models are (and yes, I include technic models in that!).
