hi
during weekend i've been testing many applications of propellers
and the sad info is i haven't been done helicopter

but here is some observations
# it is (IMO) almost absolutely imposible to do chopper
with propeller done with lego and witout the tunnel
because the vector of the air is not directed along the spining axis
so some kind of duct is needed

# i tried some applications of gearing
and the best was z40 to z8 with new light (28g) motor
or no gearing with old 9V motor

the advantage of my trials is new type of propeller
6 fixed blades
but it is a little bit heavy so maybe you guys can do it lighter or so
efficiency is great but still not enough :(

i made even the set of 2 motors and 2 propellers in one tunnel
but the frame of tunnel was heavy (and propellers were 3 blades)

so still nothing

I seriously think you can't use LEGO parts to make a propeller. It needs an airofoile shape, like an airplane wing. It needs to be thick towards one edge and thinn down on both sides. You can only get so efficient with just a plate. Is the (...) (22 years ago, 10-Feb-03, to lugnet.technic)
